The Fair categories have grown over the years. We started out with just three categories (Spoken Language, Language with Song and Dance, and Poster Art on a Language Theme). We now have ten categories, and we are growing. The modern and traditional categories of language use give every kid a chance to shine.

Cartoon & Comic Books is a new permanent category beginning in 2013!

Skateboard Art with Language: We have a special one-year art category that will tie into the exhibit Ramp It Up: Skateboard Culture in Native America.

The categories are designed to practice and display spoken language skills and literacy skills. We try to make sure there is a category for every student, at every language learning level. We hope that all students, whether they can come on the days of the Fair or not, will enjoy participating in the Fair in at least one category.

Teachers register students by

• Category
• Age Division
• Individual of Group (when applicable)

Categories can be pre-submitted (students do not need to be at the Fair), live presentation at the Fair, or a combination of both.

Live presentation categories are:

• Spoken Language Performance
• Song with Language
• Poetry (a student's own or another author's poetry)
• Master’s Performance

Submitted categories for prejudging are:

• Poster Art on a Language Theme
• Poetry Writing
• Book & Literature
• Cartoons & Comic Books
• Film & Video
• Language Advocacy Essay

Combination pre-submitted and live presentations:

• PowerPoint Presentation (PP is pre-submitted but not prejudged; student must present PP live)
